Bali Packing Tips

When preparing for your Bali adventure, packing wisely goes a long way. Here are some essential Bali packing tips that will make your trip extra smooth and easy:

Light and Breathable Clothing: Bali’s tropical climate means warm temperatures year-round. Pack light, breathable fabrics like cotton and linen to stay comfortable. Shopping in Bali is also a lot of fun, so save room in your case and enjoy the markets and boutique shops on offer.

Swimwear and Beach Gear: Sunblock sunblock sunblock. Unfortunately, sunblock is imported so can be quite expensive here in Bali – so bring plenty! Consider a sun hat and UV-protective clothing for added sun protection. Other than that, pack your swimsuits and idea to bring, or ask our concierge team and we can lend you some so you can pack light.

Comfortable Footwear: One pair of sandals, one pair of comfortable walking shoes! From the beach to the mountains, this simple combo should keep you safely exploring all day from sunrise to sundown.

First Aid Kit: There are plenty of pharmacies in Bali to purchase essentials such as band aids and creams. Bring any prescription medications your family needs. A good insect repellent to ward off mozzies will come in handy too and is available at all mini marts also. You can purchase medicine in Bali easily over the counter, including anti-biotics, ear drops and commonly needed items.

Reusable Water Bottles: Staying hydrated is so important, and bringing your own reusable bottles will really come in handy since you can only purchase plastic bottled water in Bali – no tap water here! But your villa will always have a 5 gallon water dispenser you can use to fill up your water bottles!

Power Adapters: Bali uses a two-pin plug (type C or F). Bring a suitable power adapter for your electronic devices.

Travel Insurance and Bali Tourist Visas

We recommend that all Australian Travellers to Bali take out comprehensive travel insurance to cover them if their travel plans change or they need medical treatment during their stay. Travel Insurance for your Bali Holiday should be purchased at the time of accommodation and flight reservations, in preparation for your holiday.

Bali Cultural Etiquette

Understanding the local cultural norms will really enhance your holiday experience and help you connect with the community! Here are some quick tips on Bali’s cultural etiquette:

Dress Modestly at Bali Temples: When visiting Bali temples, wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Sarongs and sashes are often provided, but it’s best to bring your own. Even children have to follow these dress codes, so just pack lots of extra sarongs 🙂

Bali Tipping Etiquette: Tipping is appreciated but not obligatory, but a small amount does go a long way. Our advice? Try to keep small bills of cash on you when you want to tip, like 5, 10, or 20 thousand rupiah. At restaurants, usually, a service charge is already included in restaurant bills, so you don’t really need to tip. But for any other services, go for it!

Try Talking in Bahasa: Learn a few basic Indonesian phrases like “Selamat Pagi” (Good Morning), “Terima kasih” (thank you) and “Tolong” (please). A little effort goes a long way in showing respect, and it will bring a huge smile to their faces!
